OVERVIEW

Now that the government guidance on returning to schools in September has been published, we are pleased to announce our return to face to face teaching at Broxbourne Music Academy. We are closely following the latest guidance and advice in a fast moving situation, to ensure the safety and reassurance to both our teaching staff, students and parents.

RISK ASSESMENT

In line with guidance, we have carried out a Covid-19 risk assesment for our school premises to ensure the safety of our staff, parents and teachers. This concerns teaching times, hygiene, instrument policy, communal area management and social distancing. For more information on each area, please see below and view the risk assesment pdf from the button below.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

The current default remains two-metres. Where possible we aim to maximise the distance between teachers and staff in the teaching rooms, but will be observing a 1m plus distancing in the communal areas which will be mitigated by wearing face coverings. Where it is not possible to maintain a 1 or 2 meter distance, we have perspex screens to mitigate any transmission

COMMUNAL AREAS

We ask all adults to wear a face covering through the communal areas of the music school and use the hand sanitizer provdided. The government are advising all students over 12 to have access to a face covering, but this is at your own discretion. Our communal seating areas will not be available to wait in and we ask all parents and guardians to wait outside of the music school where possible. For those with young children, we ask you to keep a face covering on and maintain as much distance from other students and parents as possible.

TEACHING ROOMS

We aim to have adequate ventilation in place, using natural ventilation whenever possible to ensure air flow. Our students will be positioned at least two metres apart and will be side-to-side or back-to-back. In our smaller piano room, we will have perspex screens between the pianos. Should the teachers need to be closer than 2m, then they all have access to face shields to mitigate.

CLEANING

It is absolutely vital to ensure th highest cleanliness standards. Surfaces will be fully cleaned before and after sessions along with door handles, switches, plugs, any instruments used etc. Hand sanitizer will be available in communal areas for you to use before and after lessons along with wipes in the teaching rooms. We advise bringing your own hand sanitizer.

INSTRUMENTS

Our policy is that students are asked to bring their own instruments to lessons. For drum students, we ask you to bring your own drum sticks and for larger instruments such as our pianos, we will employ a strict cleaning policy between lessons.

STUDENTS

The welfare of our students is of paramount importance to us. If you are suffering from any symptoms, have been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms or have any concerns then we ask you to speak to us as soon as possible.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES

We will be staggering lessons for each room to minimize the risk of contact with other students. We are asking all parents or guardians (non-students) to wait outside of the music school when your child is in their lesson and to not wait in any communal areas. For any parents or guardians that have special circumstances, or young children, we ask that you wear a face covering in the communal areas and use the hand sanitizer provided.

Broxbourne Music Academy is a music school based in the historic Bishops College in Cheshunt, that caters for a variety of music styles. We offer guitar lessons, piano lessons and drum lessons in our bespoke teaching rooms, as well as running short course and workshops during school holidays

All of the major examination boards are taught including ABRSM, Trinity and RockscHool. All of our teachers are experts in their field and, as well as having lots of teaching experience, are active musicians within performance, composition and recording.

Our priority is that each student receives tuition that is tailored to their needs, so our classes never exceed two students.
